It's that time again... let's take a look at the most notable apps of the week.
Rising Apps of the Week:
iOS: Egg, Inc.
Unlike most “flash in the pan” games that rise and then quickly fall in popularity, this quirky chicken farm simulator has steadily gained a large following over the past few weeks and months. If the Pokémon Go fad dies out, Egg, Inc., could easily become the game of the summer.
Google Play: Dragon Ball Z Dokkan Battle
Back in the 90s’, Pokémon and Dragon Ball Z experienced a simultaneous rise in worldwide popularity. Could we be seeing the same thing happen 20 years later? It certainly looks like it.
Top New Apps of the Week:
This collaborative map app (say that 10x fast) showing players the location of Pokémon has amassed a ton of downloads in its short time on iOS. Cheating? Maybe. But I doubt the publishers care all that much.
Google Play: Card Wars Kingdom
As we wrote in our games report, the Card category is one of the more lucrative subcategories in Google Play. Cartoon Network must have noticed, because their new game, based off the popular show “Adventure Time,” is going gangbusters.
Falling Apps of the Week:
iOS: Tamagotchi Classic
Although this app experienced a boon in players last week, downloads have tapered off. It appears that 90s’ nostalgia generated from Pokémon Go didn’t rub off on everything.
Google Play: Pewdiebot
The hugely popular “Youtuber” PewDiePie launched an app in which users could “interact” with a bot version of him. They quickly said no thanks.
Breakout Apps of the Week:
iOS: Pharaoh’s Party: Coin Pusher
Coin pusher games are a staple of arcades everywhere. There’s just something inexplicably magical about perfectly placing a single coin and watching it set off a chain reaction of falling gold. And apparently it translates well to mobile, as Pharaoh’s Party is this week’s breakout app.
Google Play: Disney Emoji Blitz
The emoji train keeps on rolling. This week, Disney Emoji Blitz came out of nowhere, amassing tens of thousands of downloads. It’s anyone’s guess which celebrity will be the next to be emoji-fied.
