Ready? Let's take a look at the most notable apps of the week.
Let’s be honest. What I really should have done here is written “Pokémon Go” and called it a blog, because if there was any impartiality to Top Apps of the Week, Pokémon Go would have been crowned Rising App, Breakout App, and Top New App. Hell, I could have probably even made a case for it to be a Falling App. But then, I ask you, where’s the fun in that?
Instead, let’s take a look at what you missed when you were too busy evolving Zubats into Golbats.
Rising Apps of the Week:
iOS: Clash of Queens: Dragon Rise
A spinoff of the widely successful Clash of Kings franchise, Clash of Queens is quickly making a name onto itself. #feminism
Google Play: OkCupid
Yep. Now’s about that time of year when those fantasies about a summer fling melt in the reality of you being an awkward shut-in with no idea how to talk to the opposite sex.[1] Thank God for online dating.
Top New Apps of the Week:
iOS: NBA Live Mobile
Wednesday marked the only day of the year in which not a single professional game was played in any of the four major American sports—the NFL, MLB, NBA, and NHL—and so it appears sports fans got their fix the virtual way. Those Golden State vs. Golden State matchups must be exhilarating!
Google Play: HIT
HIT is a decidedly different game than Pokémon Go and performed surprisingly decent in its first full week of release. Yet, one can’t help but wonder if the game would have done even better had NEXON not released it in such close proximity to Pokémon.
Falling Apps of the Week:
iOS: Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens
Not everything the Star Wars franchise touches turns to gold. Despite the dual name recognition, this app has been trending in the wrong direction since its release.
Google Play: Monopoly Bingo!
Monopoly Bingo has tried to straddle the line between Board—one of the least profitable categories—and Casino, one of the most. In the end, though, it just left everyone confused over what the game actually entails. Pick a category and stick to it, folks.
Breakout Apps of the Week:
iOS: AGT: America’s Got Talent
Now that “America’s Got Talent” has moved beyond the audition stage and opened the competition to home voters, users have flocked in droves to download the recently released companion app.
Google Play: The Blacklist: Conspiracy
This game, based on the popular TV show, has filled the void left by the summer hiatus.
